Our customer is considering using the PV450 or the PV750 for the Electric Vehicle and they requested us to check about the following questions. Could you please let us know your comments on them?

1. They have a DBC file and want to use this file for the PowerVision so that they can reduce the time to make a configuration data from scratch. Their CAN is ISO11898. Could you please let us know whether it is possible or not?

2. They want to display the status of the batteries. But there are approx. 100 units of batteries in their EV and they would like to display the status of all batteries at one screen at a time. Please kindly let us know how much parameters the PV450 or the PV750 can display.

3. They also want to display the voltage status of the batteries on the PV450/750 by a line graph. Could you please let us know if the line graph can be made by using the PowerVision?

1. DBC files cannot be directly imported into PowerVision. However you can utilize CanCapture or CanAlyzer to record the information and import the resulting file into PowerVision to help create the config.

2. PowerVision should be able to display the status of the batteries, but the number that can fit on the screen will depend on how/what you would like the screen to look like.

3. We do not currently have a line graph utility in PowerVision. It is on the requested features list, but I do not know when/if it will make it into PowerVision.

2. If 100 pcs. of parameters can be displayed on a screen at a time, they do not mind the shape and size of parameters (those would be made in small size). Could you please let us know if there is a limit on the number of parameters that can be displayed on a screen at a time?

Currently there is not a limit on the number of parameters that can be tracked. I did a quick test with 120 text gauges showing battery voltages on a 450 being fed information live from CanCapture and it worked with no issues. I performed the same test with 120 bar gauges with the same results. If you are adding a bunch of animation to the battery voltage screen you may see some performance issues as you reach the limits of the processor, but I believe that either the 450 or the 750/780 could handle these requests without any issues.

Just curious how you created 120 text gauges. Did you create one, copy it and then paste 119 times?

I created a column of 20 then copied and pasted that column multiple times.

Thank you for confirmig this by using an actual equipment.
I understand that there is no limit on the number of parameters that can be displayed.

Our customer additionally gave us a question. In regards to the above my question No. 1, you advised me that the recorded information by CAN capture or CAN alyzer can be imported into PowerVision. If the imformation is not complied with J1939, will that informarion be reflected by configuration? Please also let us know what kind of format of recorded data can be imported into PowerVision.

After re-reading your questions I must apologize for my confusion. The recorded information is used to assist in assigning known J1939 parameters. The file formats that can be used to assist in assigning the parameters can be in either CPF or ASC file formats. These are the formats that CanCapture and CanAlyzer record their data in.

The non-J1939 parameters can still be used in a configuration but they have to be manually entered. These parameters have to follow the J1939 standard format. The recording is more for quickly assigning known J1939 parameters to their devices, not for entering in unknown parameters.
