Set up for Direct Connection to Device

Post by Dai Uematsu » Fri Jan 28, 2011 4:47 am

Our customer tried to make the direct connection to device with Murphy Development Kit, but they could not upload their configuration. The error message is attached. Their OS is XP and the IP address and subnet mask were changed as follows:

IP address :192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask :255.255.255.0

Please kindly let us know what else they need to check with their set up.

Thanks,

The most common connection problems are when you have a conflicting ip ranges (for example your local ip uses 192.168.0.x) on another network. To verify this try turning off any other networks your connecting to and rebooting. If this solves your problem then you have a conflict. We are working on allowing you to change the unit (and your pc connection) ip address to avoid the conflict in the next release

Our customer turned off all other network connections as attached(Only red box is connected with IP address of 192.168.0.1), but the connection between PV750 and the PC was still not made correctly. Please kindly let me know what else our customer should check as soon as possible.

If you have verified that all other data connections (the wireless appears to still be connected) and you have rebooted in this state then it should work.

Other things that can prevent connection are av software, and some firewalls. Make sure that you can ping the ip 192.168.0.2 and the config tool should be able to reach the device.

When the IP of the computer was changed to 192.168.0.2, then there was a error message saying there is a conflict. Assuming the IP of the PV750 being 192.168.0.2 was conflicting the computer. Do we need to change the IP of the computer to 192.168.0.2? FYI, we changed the IP to 192.168.0.3 and tried to load with it, but it did not work OK(Firewall and Anti-virus software are disabled). The only AV software installed in the computer is Windows Media Player.

Other question, do we need to display a certain screen when we load the configuration on the PV750.

If you have more detailed instruction on making the direct connection between PC and PV750 from scratch, that will be helpful.

Can you verify that you tested the following.

Disable all other networks - Wireless, Lan, Cell Modem etc.
Reboot.
Set the PC's connection to 192.168.0.1
Reboot the Display connected to the network card
Ping the display at 192.168.0.2

Please send me the result after trying this. The most important things is to disable all other networks and reboot AND to reboot the display after getting the PC property configured.

If all else fails you may have to do direct loads via a USB Stick.

We went through the procedure per your instruction and the connection between PC and PV750 seems to be OK, but still could not load the configuration with the Config Tool.

Here is the version information that our customer have. Do you see any problem with the version? This might not be related to this connection issue, but please make sure that the firmware our customer is supported by the developer kit.

Application : 2.1.10023
OS : 2.1.1
Bootloader : 2.1.0
Configuration : 2.1.2

Can you confirm that the customer is using the current configuration tool? The current version should be 2.1.10754. Also, the 2.2 version of the configuration tool is coming in very soon. Might be worth trying it when it arrives.

And make sure to communicate that people can always load configurations via a USB drive by booting the unit with the bottom two buttons on the right side held down.

We are continuing to investigate how to improve the reliability of this connection in future releases.

The Config. Tool which our customer is now using is 2.1.10741. Our customer can load their configuration into PV750 with USB memory. Do you think that could affect the connection?

It wouldn't hurt to have the customer try the current release. It was a patch but fixed a number of bugs. When 2.2 comes out we will also have some other options to try. Loading from USB is always an alternative and has no effect on its ability to load with the config tool. Loading form the tool is simply a quicker way to accomplish the same thing.

Our customer updated the Config. Tool to the latest version, but it still did not work well(Their configuration could not be loaded into the PV750 with direct connection. Our customer un-checked the "Use proxy server for LAN connection" on the internet option(Tool -> Internet option -> connection tab -> LAN setting) and now they can load the configuration directly from the PC. Please find the attached. Do you think that this check box could affect the issue with direct connection?

Absolutely. Turning off the proxy server can definitely make the difference. I will add this to my list of things to check when having communication issues.

Anything that prevents me from pinging the unit can prevent the load and a proxy server being used for the connection can certainly block the ping.

Thank you for the confirmation. When you update the IOM on the config tool, please add this note to it so that users may check on their PC setting before using the config tool.
