Greetings. First let me state that I'm a newbie and the solution to this problem may be obvious but after 12 hours of beating my head against the wall I'm out looking for ideas.
I have tried four different machines running Windows 10 and Windows 7 and cannot get the USB to Ethernet dongles to work that I got from Murphy. In class I was able connect a laptop that I brought running PowerVision 2.8 to the class system (PV780T) without any issues. I then came back here and get no elevator action. Note that I did not have the dongles that I am using now, when I connected in class, I used theirs. I have tested both dongles I have as regular Ethernet modules and they work fine. I have even removed the crossover cable and put an Ethernet switch between them with pass through cable to see if I could at least get a loop indication. When I did that I did get a loop indication and ACT LED on the PC connected dongle but no indicator LEDs on the one connected to either my PV450 or PV780. I made sure I did the test almost right after powering each panel up just in case the panel decided to time out on the USB side of things.
I've seen that the version of the chipset is supposed to be ASIX AX88772A. I haven't been able to determine what version is in the dongles as all I can see is everything up to the last letter but since they were purchased from Murphy I doubt that is the issue.
I have also gone in and disabled all of my network connection with the exception of the USB one and have shutdown my firewall. Still nothing. I even went in an manually set the IP address of the PC to 192.168.0.3, 255.255.255.0 with a default gateway of 192.168.0.1 with no luck. I turned the firewall back on and did confirm that anything PowerVision related was able to pass through.
For what it's worth when the two dongles are connected with the crossover cable to either the PV450 or the PV780, Windows reports that "Network cable unplugged"
I'm open to trying any other idea anyone has. I have projects waiting and have lost two days trying to figure this out and am not too proud to have something pointed out that I may have missed. I have read as many of the threads and links I could find regarding the problem and none of them have helped.
Thanks for any help.

Re: USB to Ethernet connection issues
Hey,
I dont know if this will be helpful but I had a similar issue which was caused by having incompatible adapters see link below; but as you mentioned the adapters are probably not to blame. Hopefully Murphy can help you out if this doesnt help.

Re: USB to Ethernet connection issues
Hi,
I had some issues with the older dongles and upgraded to the latest recommended dongles. This worked for a while pretty good. Then we made a new harness and connected the 5 USB wires to our PV480. We didn't know where to connect the last wire (USB ground), so we connected that to the USB ID pin. The harness worked perfect with USB sticks except for the network connection. We took a better look at the original harness and realized that the USB ground and shield were connected together to the USB shield pin on the display. This solved our problems.
I don't know if this helps at all, but I know how frustrating it can be being stuck at a seemingly small problem...

Re: USB to Ethernet connection issues
Thanks to an email I got from Eric Carmen of Murphy the problem has been solved. The problem was that I did not do a "Create Full Install" and save it to a flash drive and update the panel first. After I did that I had communications spewing everywhere. It was like I was back in class where everything just worked. All of the wiring and the USB to Ethernet dongles work.
As an FYI, after I did the "Create Full Install" I then had it save to disk (flash). Although the file did save correctly I forgot that I had two additional folders on the drive. When I installed the flash into the USB port of the display, held one button down, powered up the display and waited a few seconds I never got the selection arrows. All I got was the screen showing the flash drive being disconnected and then it finally timed out and loaded the old configuration. When I removed the folders and left only the one file I did get the selection buttons and the enter key.
So, all is good with the planet and normal rotation has been returned.
Thanks for your comments.
