Hello,
I have a need to mask the source address (SA) for J1939 data. Specifically, there are now after treatment systems for Tier IV diesel engines that have their own controllers (ECU), and lamp functions can be controlled from either the engine or one of the after treatment controllers.
I see there are several options on the Connections/Engine Device page that might address this, but I do not know how they work. One is a check box, "Request Specific Address." Perhaps unchecking this will mask the SA? There is also "Address Type" which provides a dropdown list. And there is "SourceAddress," maybe I can put a list of allowed SAs in there?
Thanks,
Phil
Any way to mask source address for J1939 parameters?

Hi Phil,
There are two ways you can filter on a source address; you can use the Devices and organize the parameters by source address or you can use the Free Form CAN Data Messages. There is a similar topic that has an example of using the Free Form CAN Data Messages found here: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1105&p=3011&hilit=filter#p3011
The topic presents information about each approach to help you determine how you want to handle your configuration. You need to process your data different, but processes are based on PGN and Source Address similar to the other topic.
I'll be glad to help with further information if you need it.

Re: Any way to mask source address for J1939 parameters?
Hi Sara,
So in short, there is no way to mask the source address? That is something Murphy should look into adding, as Tier IV is causing the addition of more controllers (ECUs) that can send the same J1939 messages.
Also, some of your competitors already have masking. Danfoss Plus+1 controllers and displays, e.g., have had masking at least since 2009. It is very useful and saves a lot of time in many instances, especially for J1939 compliant devices.
Once again thanks for your help Sara.
Regards,
Phil
