Please consider a mailing list over a forum, it's faster, better integrated with most peoples desktop environment, allows me to store this info locally where I can search it when offline, and gives me outbox/sent messages/thread tracking. Also it's harder for me to be a goof, hit the back button and lose my posts prior to posting them.
useful as the smilies are, give me a mailing list any day.
