An easy way to use internal discrete logic (either from J1939 data or from I/O) to trigger and display alarms on the display seamlessly with recieved DM1 messages. Using a second CAN port to transmit a DM1 to be recieved by the first port is not really a good solution, as there is no good method of transmitting mulipacket messages, and a dedicated CAN port for this may not be available.
For example, some alarms may come in as actual DM1 messages and some alarms such as for fuel level are generated internally from an analog input.

Re: Internal DM1 messages
Hello mbowdich,
The ability to generate internal DM1s is very desirable feature and that is why it will be available in the next version of the PowerVision software.
You will be able to sepcify the port, source address, lamp status, SPN, FMI, and it will be handled by Diagnostic Messages application as if it had been received by a CAN port.
Regards,
ksaenz
