Enovation Controls, Matrix Service Co. Build Habitat House

Enovation Controls continues its efforts to improve the communities in which it resides. This spring, Enovation Controls partnered with Tulsa Habitat for Humanity and Matrix Service Co. to help Tamara Walker build and buy a house for herself and her two children. Walker is a kindergarten teacher at Deborah Brown Community School in Tulsa.

Prior to the construction of her house, Walker had lived with her mother in a single bedroom with her children but had always dreamed of owning her own home. Thanks to Tulsa Habitat for Humanity, that dream is possible with their home ownership program. The program required Walker to complete more than 250 hours of work with the organization, plus constructing her home alongside community volunteer builders. Tulsa Habitat mortgages the cost of the home to Tamara at zero percent interest and takes no profit on it.

On a cold March morning, members of the Enovation Controls executive leadership went to the site of Walker’s future home to meet her and raise the first walls of her house. Construction moved on through April and May despite historic amounts of rain and flooding in the Tulsa area. Over nine weekends, 143 Enovation Controls employees volunteered their time, including employees from San Antonio who traveled to Tulsa to help. On June 2, Tulsa Habitat held a dedication ceremony to commemorate and bless the house before Walker entered it as a homeowner.

“I started in August and applied, I started doing my hours in December, then I started building my house in March, and now it’s done,” said a teary but smiling Walker. “I want to say thanks to Matrix and Enovation Controls because they helped me build my house.”

Enovation Controls CEO Pat Cavanagh and Matrix Service Co. CIO Rick Bennett were on hand to present Walker with the keys to her new home.

“We’re excited to become part of this legacy, and Enovation Controls believes in working in the community to improve the lives of others and to make a difference in the lives of families in the local community,” said Cavanagh. “I’d like to thank all our employees and all our volunteers who became working dreamers in this project.”
